Object Class: Keter
Entry Type: Anomalous Software
Physical Appearance: SCP-5685 is a seemingly innocuous software package named 'Universal Compatibility Toolkit'. The program appears to be written in a proprietary programming language and is designed to be installed on any compatible operating system. The program interface is a clean, minimalistic design with no obvious anomalous properties.
Anomalous Properties: When SCP-5685 is installed on any device, the device becomes capable of running any software or application heard, seen or read about, regardless of the original platform or compatibility restrictions. Furthermore, if any version of a software or application already exists on the device, SCP-5685 will override the original version with the newly installed one, making the original version inaccessible.
During the initial testing of SCP-5685, a researcher downloaded and installed an outdated version of a widely used antivirus software. Despite the software being over a decade old, SCP-5685 successfully installed it on the test device overwriting the newer, native version of the antivirus software. The test device's system was rendered unstable and began to execute programs in a random, incomprehensible order, causing it to malfunction and self-destruct within minutes.
An experiment was conducted to test the limits of SCP-5685's anomalous properties by attempting to install a theoretical software that defies the laws of physics, such as instantaneous Faster-Than-Light travel. The result resulted in the instantaneous self-destruction of both the test device and the computer network it was connected to, causing widespread network failure throughout Site-89.
